RSrnYC has shore-based training for Race Officers on 27 February, but the first event on the water will be the Practice Regatta with Jim Saltonstall on 13 March. Hope the weather will have become a little less wintry by then.

I see that an old favourite is still on the calendar – the Deauville Race. I don’t know how serious a race it is these days, but in my time it was the first of the rare chances to set foot on French soil instead of turning round a mark such as CH1 and heading straight back. A chance to replenish ship’s duty free locker, too, before EEC days.
